The aim of the tool is to <span style=\"color: #286239;\"><strong>unlock<\/strong><\/span> this information in such a way that it is <span style=\"color: #286239;\"><strong>understandable and usable for a non-scientific public<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3>The basics<\/h3>\n<p><em>When is an argument effective?<br \/>\n<\/em><span style=\"color: #286239;\"><strong>A good argument is one that convinces<\/strong><\/span>. In this case:\u00a0convinces policy makers to take action for biodiversity.\u00a0\u00a0The &#8216;effectiveness&#8217; of an argument within this context is therefore determined by its ability to provoke action, as well as by its ability to keep doing so over time.<\/p>\n<p><em>Effectiveness depends on context<br \/>\n<\/em> <span style=\"color: #286239;\"><strong>What\u00a0&#8216;good&#8217; arguments\u00a0are is situation dependent<\/strong><\/span>. The effectiveness of arguments in influencing decision makers depends for instance on the level of knowledge and the views of the decision makers, on the way the arguments are used (e.g. in a positive
